Shepherd Public Schools will be on a 3- hour delay for today, Thursday, December 11, 2025. As a reminder, there is no CTE and the cafeteria does not serve breakfast on delay days.

Due to the uncertainty of the weather and roads, our Career Fair that was scheduled for tomorrow, December 11 has been CANCELLED. We thank all of our partners who make this event an annual success and apologies for the circumstances but we don’t want to spring this decision last minute.
We are actively working toward opportunities for our students to attend the RESD Career Fair later in the year.

First trimester during Exploration Hour students got to pursue a passion project. Sierah described her project as ..." I made a storage caddy for livestock soaps that I call the "Cow Caddy", that I intend to use at the fair. I created the Cow caddy because I was unhappy with how there were no organization compartments in my current storage caddy, so I created my own with storage compartments to organize the soaps and brushes I use while grooming my animals."

Future NASA Engineers in the Making!
These four Shepherd High School students are taking innovation to new heights through the NASA TechRise Challenge! Their mission? Design an experiment that, if chosen, will be included in a suborbital spaceflight. This group designed an experiment to test how 3D-printed materials survive space conditions—paving the way for astronauts to print parts while exploring deep space.
Good luck, BlueJays! The sky is not the limit.

Shepherd Public Schools will be on a 3- hour delay for December 2, 2025.
A reminder: no CTE on delay days and the cafeteria does not serve breakfast.

As a Capturing Kids Heart school we are asking that parents complete this survey to help us celebrate our successes and plan for improvements. This survey should only take a couple of minutes to complete and we appreciate your input. If you have students in multiple buildings you will be receiving multiple survey links as they are unique to each building. If you already completed this, thank you

Mr. Russell's Woods classes have been hard at work. As we close out 1st trimester, here are a few of the projects created this trimester by Brynnleigh, Brody, and Mason. Great work BlueJays!!

Our Student Leadership class wrapped up their mentorship program with the elementary this week, and what a journey it’s been! From lunchroom laughs to playground teamwork, our high school mentors built real friendships that will have a lasting impact on all involved. Watching these bonds grow reminds us that leadership isn’t just about guiding others — it’s about listening, caring, and connecting.

Congratulations to the Students of the Month for October!

The Modern Storytelling: Sports Stories class has had some great events recently!
Last week they welcomed Tanya Johnson to hear her tell her personal sports story. Tanya was born & raised in Big Rapids. Her freshmen year at Ferris State was in 1975 when Title IV passed and she made the first ever women’s basketball team with no prior experience, besides playing in her driveway. From there, she went on to play in the first women’s professional basketball league on three different teams. She moved to Chicago for her career as a high school counselor & basketball coach spanning 4 decades, where she is still one of three women with over 500 wins. She’s been inducted into multiple hall of fames and coached the 2012 McDonald’s All Star Game. Her message for our Shepherd students: “You can come from anywhere & achieve big things!”
Today, the class spent the day seeing how far sports have come since the first women’s basketball teams in 1975 by traveling to SVSU to watch their women’s team win a close game today over Drury University!

In Exploration Hour, students get to pursue their passion project. Here is what Thor said about his project. "My project is a set of pressure sensors that can tell you where and how much pressure you're putting on a tech deck skateboard. I really enjoyed it because I was able to teach myself how to tech deck."

Thank you to the Mt. Pleasant Area Community Foundation for awarding a grant to the SHS German Exchange Program! This grant will help support more Shepherd and German students to have the opportunity to participate in the life-changing experiences of the program. Stay tuned to see the adventures of our Shepherd students in Crivitz in March! https://youtu.be/80UD4MYGcA8
Shepherd Freshmen attended a field trip to the Ziibiwing Center of Anishinabe Culture & Lifeways in Mount Pleasant. This visit offered an opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe through engaging exhibits and artifacts. Students gained a deeper understanding of indigenous perspectives and the cultural heritage of the Great Lakes region.
