Attendance Matters!

Missing just 2 days a month can have a huge impact over the course of the school year. Over the course of 4 years, this would lead to missing 80 days--more than one full trimester. We want to see you and work with you every day!!

WE'RE GOING TO SPACE! (kind of...)

Back in December, we posted about our team of students who submitted a proposal to the NASA Techrise Student Challenge. We are proud to announce that their experiment was selected as one of only 60 across the United States and will be floating around the stratosphere this summer after they spend the remainder of the school year building the experiment. CONGRATULATIONS to Alivia Kirchofer, Elijah Robinson, Eddie Radtke, Brayden Rountree, and Logan Lambert!

Watch for updates as this project progresses.

In her role as Regional Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Heather Wolf delivered a presentation to the State Board of Education in Lansing yesterday examining the impact of instructional coaching at the secondary level on teacher retention. It's so great to have our Shepherd educators making an impact beyond the local level. Great work Mrs. Wolf!! Pictured with State Superintendent, Glenn Maleyko, and Teacher of the Year, Corey Rosser.

Attendance Matters! As we continue working with families to improve attendance, we will be posting weekly information about attendance.

Winter is a time where illness can spread quickly, and we know that the decision for your student to go to school or stay home can be a tough one. Below is some guidance for when "sick" is too sick to attend. We hope this helps! As much as possible, we want our students to be here!

SHS Graduates find success in a lot of different ways!

As students prepare to build their class schedule preferences for the 2026-27 school year, please talk to your student about future plans and what classes will be best for the preparation of that future. Counselors will begin the scheduling process with students the week of January 20, so have those conversations now!

Happy Friyay! At the end of each week, SHS has been celebrating our students with attendance successes. To continue doing this, we need your help!

First, we would like to thank the businesses that have donated to Shepherd for our students. In order to keep celebrating our students, we would be so grateful to anyone in the community willing to donate items to give out as prizes to our students that keep up the good work! We celebrate our students every Friday with gift cards, candy, merchandise, swag, and more. Any type of that donation would be greatly appreciated.

Please drop off any donations to the high school office to be given to Ms. Baker for our Friyay program. Questions: email Lisa Alexander at lalexander@shepherdschools.net

Attendance matters! This trimester, staff is working with Leadership class to develop incentives for positive attendance habits. Each Friday we have drawings for students who have had perfect attendance for the previous 5 days. In addition, this week we had our first "no tardies for 15 days" drawing, and students' parents/guardians should have received a "good news" email if their student was entered into the drawings this week. Being here and being on time matters! Have a great holiday break, and we look forward to seeing even better attendance habits in 2026!

Due to the uncertainty of the weather and roads, our Career Fair that was scheduled for tomorrow, December 11 has been CANCELLED. We thank all of our partners who make this event an annual success and apologies for the circumstances but we don’t want to spring this decision last minute. We are actively working toward opportunities for our students to attend the RESD Career Fair later in the year.

First trimester during Exploration Hour students got to pursue a passion project. Sierah described her project as ..." I made a storage caddy for livestock soaps that I call the "Cow Caddy", that I intend to use at the fair. I created the Cow caddy because I was unhappy with how there were no organization compartments in my current storage caddy, so I created my own with storage compartments to organize the soaps and brushes I use while grooming my animals."

Future NASA Engineers in the Making! These four Shepherd High School students are taking innovation to new heights through the NASA TechRise Challenge! Their mission? Design an experiment that, if chosen, will be included in a suborbital spaceflight. This group designed an experiment to test how 3D-printed materials survive space conditions—paving the way for astronauts to print parts while exploring deep space. Good luck, BlueJays! The sky is not the limit.
