
Parents, If your son or daughter had an athletic physical last year it is not necessary to get one for the upcoming school year. The only requirement would be to fill out both pages of the 2020-21 MHSAA Health Questionnaire that can be found using the web address below. If your son or daughter did not get a physical last year they will need one this year in order to participate in athletics. The athletic physical form can also be found using this web address.

This message is for the parents of all middle school track athletes. The first practice is Monday, March 9th after school from 3:00-5:00. All middle school track athletes should report to the hallway outside the media center after school on Monday.

The brackets for the middle school boys basketball tournament this Saturday at Harrison are set. The 7th grade plays at 10:00 at the middle school and the 8th grade plays at 10:00 in the high school. If they lose they play again at 11:00. If they win they play at 12:00.

Attention middle school boys and girls. You can sign up in the office for middle school track and field. You will need to have a current athletic physical to begin practice on March 9th. There will be a parent meeting on Tuesday, March 10th at 5:00.

The middle school cross country meet that was canceled today (Wednesday) will be made up tomorrow (Thursday) at Beaverton at the regularly scheduled time. The October 16th meet will now be held here in Shepherd.

The middle school cross country meet scheduled to be held at MSU today is canceled. The high school cross country meet is still on for today.

The MS cross country team competed in the St Johns Cross Country Invite and the girls took 5th & boys 8th. Gracie Warner, Madison Gimmey, & Nolan Longuski medaled. They are back in action on Friday when they travel to East Lansing for the MSU Spartan Invitational.

Shepherd Middle School Cross Country is off to a great start. At the 19 team John Bruder Classic the girls placed 3rd and the boys placed 10th. Nolan Longuski, Gracie Warner, Kendell Wilcox, Madison Gimmey, Tyannah Trepanier, and Allison Richards were all awarded medals. Go Blue!

Only two days left until the new school year starts! Just a reminder that middle school volleyball and middle cross country begin immediately after school on the 26th. All athletes must bring a current physical card with them or already have one on file before they can practice.

The first practice for middle school volleyball will be Monday, August 26th from 3:00-5:00 in the middle school gym. Athletes MUST have a physical before the first day of practice. The parent meeting will be Thursday, August 29th at 5:15 in the middle school gym.

SMS and SES staff members were committed to getting better today by attending professional development with Dr. Fred Johnson. The topic Dr. Johnson discussed was on “Using Restorative Discipline and PBIS Strategies in the Classroom.” Our teachers are committed to providing better experiences for your children. Go Jays!!

Any 8th grade boy interested in playing soccer in the fall should attend the sign up meeting Thursday at 11:50 in Mr. Travis' classroom (303).

Congratulations to the boys and girl track teams. Both placed 7th out 63 schools in the small school division of the Megastar meet. Congratulations to the boys 4x800 relay for breaking the school record with the team of Mitchell Walters, Tate Ross, Joel Bendele, and Nico Lopez.

Congrats to Mrs. Laura Courtright on being selected as the SMS High Flier for this month. She goes over and beyond for all of her students and has been an integral part of the Blue Jay family for years. She challenges her students to achieve and builds a great rapport with each child when they have her in 6th Grade Math. Mrs. Courtright also assists in Faculty Council and in the process has helped to move our school culture and climate forward. Thanks for all you do, Mrs. Courtright. (She is pictured below with last month’s High Flier winner, Mrs. King.) There’s no better time than now to be a Blue Jay!!

Thanks to all the SMS students who volunteered this past weekend at the Maple Syrup Festival. From helping serve pancakes and sausage to assisting in the parade, we appreciate all the help representing our belief system of giving back to our community.
